Thanksgiving

I love Christmas, but I think I like Thanksgiving the best. It makes you stop and think about everything you have in your life and appreciate everything you have received. I am so very thankful for my children. They are a blessing to me and the most important thing in my life. I love and appreciate my grandmother very much. She has been very supportive and helpful to me over the years. I also have a boyfriend for which I am very thankful. He is a wonderful caring and supportive man. He cares very deeply for my children.

Families

I think families are both. Mine certainly was. I viewed my family as a functional dysfunctional family. I think mine now could be viewed the same. I think every family has a certian amount of dysfunctionality within it. I don't think being dysfunctional is neccessarily bad. I think some dysfunctionality is healthy.

Barbie Doll

I love this reading. I can apply it to my oldest daughter. She started out liking barbies, I think because she felt she was supposed to because she was a girl. As she got older I think she realized the fallacie of barbie. She took a different approach to them. She did not dress them up or comb their hair. She would instead cut off all their hair, draw tattoos on them and alter their clothing. I think she felt vindiated in the end because she is not a blue eyed blonde.

Logical fallacies

You see the ad hominem argument in political ads all the time. The attack of character of the opponet. It plants doubt in your mind about that person. This is a position I wish candidates would not use because it is detrimentaly to the person's campaign who is doing the attacking. I don't vote for someone who uses this method. It is irrelavent to the campaign.

The Case against College

I can totally relate to this essay. I have a son in the same position. He is a very smart kid but college is not in his plans right now. He is holding down a job and is very responsible. College at somepoint may be in his plans, but whatever he does I know it will be the right decision for him.

Teenagers and tattoos

My daughter got her firs tat when she was 18. It was a compromise. I let her get that instead of getting her lip pierced. For my daughter it is a form of self-expression. She is a wonderful girl who has a job and goes to college. She just likes to push the envelope a bit. All of her tatoos are able to be covered up. I can think of worse things. She has never been in trouble. I figure if this makes her happy then she should do it. I also think if when she gets older and regrets it she can always get them removed.

Glass Castle

I am really enjoying the book so far. The kids really don't know any other life. If they did I think they would see what a deprived life they live. The mother is so in her own little world . The kids practically raise themselves. They are however very creative thinkers. In some ways I am surprised they  have faired as well as they have.

Life

You know life hardly ever works out like we want or plan it. I have learned that lifes lessons are wonderful learning experiences. Through all of mine it has made me a stronger person, one who is not afraid to speak for herself, or go after something. Lately I have experienced many out of my comfort zone experiences. They have turned out well. It has encouraged me not to be so shy. Although some experiences cause pain in the end they all make us who we are and that is a good thing!

Social networking

I see that social networking has become popular for all ages. I know a lady at work who is almost 60 years old  who uses it to stay in touch with old friends andfamily. I myself only got on Facebook because a friend of mine had pictures posted and wanted me to see them. I find that the younger you are more information is given or statements made that I would never dream of saying. My daughter uses it to stay in touch with friends at college. I have found it to be a useful tool but not one I am faithfully committed to.

Venting

I am just venting a little about homework. Working full time and part time and doing full time school is at times a little much. Sometimes I feel like I am fitting shcool in between jobs and kids. I try to make sure everyone gets attention and that all my homework gets done. I am thinking I need to make a change somewhere pretty soon. Ok I feel better.

I get inspiration from music. One of my favorite songs is by George Strait. It is called The Breath You Take.It reminds me of what is important in life and it keeps me focused.

"The Breath You Take" lyrics

"The Breath You Take"

He looks up from second base, dad's up in the stands
He saw the hit, the run, the slide, there ain't no bigger fan
In the parking lot after the game
He said, "Dad, I thought you had a plane to catch?"
He smiled and said, "Yeah, son, I did"

But life's not the breath you take, the breathing in and out
That gets you through the day, ain't what it's all about
You just might miss the point trying to win the race
Life's not the breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away

Fast forward fifteen years and a thousand miles away
Boy's built a life, he's got a wife and a baby due today
He hears a voice saying, "I made it son"
Says, "I told you dad, you didn't have to come"
He smiles and says, "Yeah, I know you did"

But life's not the breath you take, the breathing in and out
That gets you through the day, ain't what it's all about
You just might miss the point trying to win the race
Life's not the breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away

Just like it took my breath when she was born
Just like it took my breath away when dad took his last that morn

Life's not the breath you take, the breathing in and out
That gets you through the day, ain't what it's all about
Just might miss the point if you don't slow down the pace
Life's not the breaths you take but the moments that take your breath away

Ok this is my first post ever on anything like this. Getting used to school has been a challenge. Working full time and part time and fitting full time online school into my schedule has at sometimes been frazzling to my mental state. Hopefully it will get better as I adjust to it all.
